Churchfields appreciates the contribution of PE to the health and wellbeing of its children. We also acknowledge that a broad, balanced, high quality curriculum and extra-curricular activities have a positive impact on concentration, attitude and achievement.
We are committed to ensuring that all pupils receive a minimum of two hours of PE per week, delivered by well-trained and enthusiastic teachers. The Sport Premium funding is allowing us to create a sustainable improvement in teacher confidence, as well as a new curriculum based on developing children’s physical skills. Regular staff training opportunities are provided for teachers to keep them abreast of new initiatives.
We run an annual Sports/Healthy School Week, which has included a sponsored event (resulting in a visit from an Olympic athlete), skipping training, alternative sports from an external provider, cycling, KS1 multi-skills festival and Sports Day (including competitive races for KS1 and KS2). Alongside this, children were taught about healthy eating and advice to lead a healthy lifestyle.
Teachers and external providers provide a wide range of after-school sports clubs, both for team and individual sports. Churchfields has a great record in local sports competitions and events in Wiltshire. This could not have been achieved without the support and commitment of parents, which is always appreciated.
The Government is providing funding to assist with primary school sport funding. The funding is being jointly provided by the Departments for Education, Health, and Culture, Media and Sport, and will see money going directly to primary schools to spend on improving the quality of sport and PE for all their children. The money can only be spent on sport and PE provision in schools. Churchfields, the Village School will receive £17,030 in academic year 2020-21.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, pupils were unable to undertake swimming lessons for two years running. Swimming lessons were resumed in the 21-22 school year. Year six swimming ability information will be published when this data becomes available.
