KS2 Ukulele Performance

All Key Stage 2 children at Churchfields have been introduced to the ukulele during their music lessons this year.

This was made possible with the support of the Pound Arts Centre in Corsham which loaned 24 ukuleles, and the school’s enthusiastic ukulele teacher, Debbie Emberson. The 6 week course of lessons culminated in whole class performances to parents in an assembly, giving the children experience of performing to an audience.

“We’re delighted to have offered the children this opportunity – for many their first ever experience of playing a musical instrument,” said headteacher Simon Futcher, “We hope that this will inspire many of them to further develop instrumental skills and enjoy the experience of performing”.

The children were quick to agree that they had enjoyed the experience: “I really liked playing as a whole class,” Immy explained.  “It was quite challenging as we had four different parts so we had to listen really carefully whilst singing as well.”
