At Churchfields we believe all children can enjoy and excel in maths. We help nurture a deep understanding of maths through a mastery approach: breaking down learning into small steps, using different representations and encouraging problem solving and reasoning skills in addition to fluency.

Intent, Implementation & Impact

Knowledge & Skills Progression

We follow ‘White Rose Maths’ for our teaching across years one to six. An overview of how knowledge and skills are progressed in our school is given below along with a link to the mixed-age planning resources we use. All these documents are current for academic year 2022-23, despite any other dates noted on the documents which indicates only when they were written.

Finance week 2022

Did you know most people’s financial habits are formed by the time they are 7 years old? We are looking this important practical application of maths in a cross-curricular way focusing both on maths skills of coin recognition and calculating with money and our relationships with money and financial wellbeing.

If you would like to talk to your child about money you may find the following link helpful: https://www.familybuildingsociety.co.uk/tips-and-guides/children-and-money

We are running a competition, with a prize for KS1 and KS2 to design your own banknote. Watch here for inspiration. You can enter as many times as you like!
