About Churchfields

Churchfields, the Village School opened in 2006 through the amalgamation of Atworth School and Monkton Farleigh C.E School.

As a Church of England School, we encourage the children to work and play in an atmosphere that encourages the values of acceptance and forgiveness. Our children are keen, enthusiastic and proud of the work they do at school.

The children are taught and supported by a committed team of teachers that promote quality learning by having high expectations and standards. We believe that it’s important to fully involve parents, and work hard to create a family atmosphere at the school.

Each classroom has an interactive whiteboard, and banks of laptops are available at both bases for the children to use. We continually assess our ICT capability to make sure that it’s always up to date.

Although we have two bases we are one school, and the staff work hard to ensure continuity of curriculum coverage and equal levels of achievements and standards across both bases.

Churchfields had an Ofsted Inspection in September 2012 and were graded as follows:

  • Overall Effectiveness – Good
  • Achievement of Pupils – Good
  • Quality of Teaching – Good
  • Behaviour and Safety of Pupils – Outstanding

Here are some quotes from the report:

Pupils achieve well in all phases of the school and at both sites. From their above average attainment on entry, pupils do especially well in reading, mathematics and oral communication.”

“Pupils’ personal development is outstanding. Their behaviour is excellent, as are their attitudes to learning.”

“The School’s outstanding partnership with parents and carers has ensured that they give excellent support to their children’s learning.”
